Richard Herbert

Chairman & Chief Executive Officer

Richard, third-generation Kenyan-born, is Founder, Director and CEO of Aeolus Kenya Ltd. With driving vision, he is leading AKL in the Lamu energy and infrastructure project – a project he first conceived in 2010, while also building a series of less ambitious but no less promising businesses under AKL’s umbrella. Richard has 20 years of experience working in the construction and telecommunications industries where he has forged relationships with local partners and global corporations, while navigating the complexities of multilateral government and parastatal stakeholders.  Richard has created, owned and managed infrastructure and energy development companies in the United States, Kenya, and Southern Sudan. His range of accomplishments include the installation of the first mobile phone network in Southern Sudan as a proof of concept, prior to the comprehensive peace agreement, and successful fundraising, negotiation and commercial close of a 60 megawatt wind power generation project in Kenya.  Richard has directly managed both large and small-scale development projects at both board and executive levels.  His strong management and leadership skills, combined with unparalleled local knowledge, uniquely position him to address the development challenges of the African market.

Christopher T. Schulten, JD

General Counsel

Christopher is a founding Director and the General Counsel of AKL (Aeolus Kenya Ltd). He is an experienced attorney, entrepreneur, and frontier market developer.  In addition to managing the firm’s legal affairs, he co-manages the firm’s fundraising, strategic relationships, and communications. He has 15 years of experience in New York and Nairobi advising on project finance, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance. Prior to AKL, Christopher was Counsel at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld and before that Sullivan & Cromwell in New York, representing clients in the energy and financial sectors. He clerked for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Allister Lindsay, MSc

Executive Vice President Of Operations & Business Development

Allister is the Managing Director of AKL and lifelong resident of Kenya.  A serial entrepreneur for over 10 years, he recently identified gaps in the market for quality aggregates and equipment leasing.  After a thorough analysis of both industries, Allister launched initiatives under the AKL umbrella to harness and realise these opportunities.    Allister is also a founder and board member Todwil East Africa, a regional marketing company that boasts clients such as Diageo, BAT and Pepsi.  Prior to venturing into his own businesses, he worked as the East African Regional Sales and Marketing Director for Abercrombie & Kent, directing a global sales force. He has over 19 years’ experience in marketing and sales management in the hospitality industry.

Thomas Dimitroff, JD, MA

MD - Infrastructure Development

Tom brings to AKL, 18 years of global experience as a lawyer, negotiator, risk analyst and business strategist working on upstream and mid-stream oil and gas infrastructure projects.  His experience is gained from both public and private engagements across Eastern Europe, former Soviet Union, North America, Asia, Middle East and Pan Africa.  Tom is also author of “Cross-Border Pipelines: Risk and Sustainable Mitigations,” World Energy Law and Business, published in July 2014.

Roselida Parker, MBA

Communications and Business Development Manager

After working with AKL for several years developing the website and helping to write AKL’s communications materials, Roselida joined AKL to guide its external communications strategy.  Previously she worked as an independent web developer and strategic management consultant, having founded and grown her own business for the past several years. She has also worked for several international organizations in Kenya, with experience in information technology and operations management. She serves on the board of the Young Women Social Entrepreneurs – Nairobi Chapter.

Muthoni Koinange

Social Impact & Performance Advisorr

Muthoni is the founder and Managing Consultant at SP Advisory, a consultancy focused on Social Performance, Public Affairs and Strategic Communications with an emphasis on Oil & Gas (upstream and midstream), Renewable Energy, Mining and Infrastructure. Prior to that, Muthoni had 12 years of experience in both the private and public sectors, working as the Corporate Affairs Officer at Africa Oil Kenya B.V., and prior to that as a Trade Development Manager at the British High Commission. These positions exposed her to a variety of sectors across the Kenyan economy, and gave her specialized training and experience in organizational development, social performance, public affairs and strategic communications. Muthoni has throughout her life and career been a passionate advocate for stakeholder engagement at the community and county levels as Kenya pursues rapid economic development. Muthoni is a member of the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), the Kenya Chamber of Mines (KCM) and the Oil Council (UK). .

Kjersti Schmitz, MPH, EdM

Technical Advisor

Kjersti brings 18 years’ experience in research, public health and education programming, and project management to support AKL’s growing social impact agenda.  She comes to AKL from Columbia University where she helped develop and pilot a multidisciplinary quality improvement framework and provided technical assistance to ICAP clinic and community-based HIV care and treatment programs in Africa.  Kjersti began her career as a Peace Corps volunteer and cultivated her expertise while working for government and privately funded programs in the United States and Africa.  She has also provided direct psychosocial services to disenfranchised populations in New York City.
